Skånska Spritfabriken

From farm to glass with a love of flavour and a passion for the raw material

The story - beloved apple

Out on the Scanian plains outside Lund, two entrepreneurs were having a lively discussion about how to make the most of all the apples that kept falling to the ground.

The discussion centred on the world-class tasting case fruit that attracted them to the region after working at Moët & Chandon in California's Napa Valley wine region. That's where the Skånska Spritfabrikens story begins.

Jams, juices, self-picking... Or spirits. Making spirits made the most sense, as it was a skill they had. Bottles, corks, used oak barrels of various sizes were purchased.

In 2006, a first distillation is made of apples that may be stored on the farm.

The first bottles were filled, and with them in the car, the couple set off for Berlin's Krog. The first sale was made. Pommeau, now Äppelglöd and Swedish calvados - Österlen.

To celebrate, they ordered a bargain dinner at another restaurant, considerably more expensive than the sale that had just been made.

It turns out that Äppelglöd (Pommes Feliz) and Österlen, a Swedish calvados taste heavenly.
