Our ambition is to make a wine with charismatic elements from Gotland, which meets the same expectations and level as an international wine. Transparency is one of our values and we will work consistently to have open doors for our product and production. We want to share not only an excellent selection of wines, but also the craftsmanship and extensive knowledge that these wines require.
Långmyre Vineri is an investment that we hope will live on for several generations. It is an investment in the future.
In spring 2018, 26,000 vines were planted on five hectares, a field almost the size of ten football pitches. The crop currently consists of five different grape varieties, three green and two blue. The varieties are so-called piwi varieties, or hybrids developed by Vivai Rauscedo in northern Italy.
They are crosses between traditional grapes and wild grapes and are both resistant to many diseases and adapted to our Nordic climate. Unlike traditional grapes, such as chardonnay or pinot noir, hybrid varieties do not require chemical spraying and therefore make farming environmentally friendly and sustainable - without compromising on quality.
The soil is calcareous, very similar to the terroir that characterises Chablis and Champagne in France. The soil also consists of about 70% sand, which provides excellent natural drainage.
