Närke Kulturbryggeri was founded in 2003 and has been located in Grenadjärstaden in the north of Örebro ever since. We are one of Sweden's oldest "small breweries". When we started there were about 30 breweries in Sweden. Today we are perhaps 500!
We brew many different types of beer, from lagers to ales and porter/stouts. We are old and new at the same time. We look back at the history of beer while brewing with modern ideas and ingredients. We work artisanal and small-scale. All our beers are unfiltered and unpasteurised, i.e. brewed in a natural way. Many of our beers can be stored for many years. We strive for flavour richness and variety - No Blask! - and we brew with pride, accuracy and great love for each beer. Närke Kulturbryggeri cannot be bought up and destroyed!
We were involved in starting the Swedish Independent Small Brewers Association back in 2008. At that time we were 12 member breweries and we knew each other, almost all of us. Today, the association is called Sveriges Oberoende Bryggerier and has about 160 members. The name "small" was perhaps not the most important description of our companies, unlike "independent", and although we are not the largest, we are actually the most! Together, we make our voice heard on many different issues, which are important to us and the beer culture. The association is a fine and important contact network for the exchange of experience and knowledge development. May we never again experience "brewery death" and standardisation of beer culture!
