Gotland Whisky

Gotland Whisky was founded in 2004 to produce the island’s first whiskey. The prospects for success were considered more than favorable. There are three reasons for this: existing facilities, a unique organic barley, and a special water source.
The old sugar mill in Roma serves as the site for mashing, fermentation, distillation, aging, and bottling. Over the years, the massive late-19th-century facilities have been renovated, remodeled, and refurbished to meet the demands of a modern whiskey distillery. Malting and smoking take place in Ronehamn on southern Gotland.
The organic barley, grown exclusively on Gotland, creates unique opportunities to produce a successful whiskey. To ensure long-term production, barley supplies have been secured for the foreseeable future. Our special water, which flows directly from the limestone bedrock, is drawn from our own spring.
2012 marked the debut of the first distillate.
The first distillate was put into casks that Christmas.
