Östgöta Ångbryggeri

Östgöta Ångbryggeri is a craft brewery in Motala that combines traditional brewing craftsmanship with modern brewing techniques. Located in the historic Engelfabrikerna industrial area next to the Motala River, the brewery produces beer with a focus on flavor, quality, and local roots. The brewery uses steam as a heat source in the brewing process and works with freshly ground malt and carefully selected ingredients, with Swedish and locally sourced ingredients playing a central role. The result is well-balanced and distinctive beers, primarily in the top-fermented style, crafted with great care at every stage.

The brewery’s journey began in 2015 when homebrewer Patrik Fors founded Fors Bryggeri after his beers gained popularity among both friends and local beer enthusiasts. What began on a small scale gradually developed into an established brewery with a wide range of beer styles, from classic lagers to dark stouts. Over the years, the brewery has built a strong presence in restaurants, hotels, and Systembolag stores throughout the region. Since 2023, the business has been led by entrepreneur Niklas Magnusson, who has continued to expand the operation through investments, product development, and new initiatives.

In 2026, Östgöta Ångbryggeri also began offering on-site sales in conjunction with tours and tastings. Visitors have the opportunity to follow the beer’s journey from malt to finished product, while also learning about the area’s industrial history and the brewery’s own development. The combination of local history, authentic craftsmanship, and a passion for beer has made the brewery a popular destination and a significant player in the Swedish craft beer scene.
