Spirit of Hven

Spirit of Hven is a family-owned craft distillery on the small, picturesque island of Hven in the Øresund, founded in 2008 by Anja and Henric Molin. They realized early on that the island’s mild microclimate, nutrient-rich soils, and location in the Øresund provide an ideal terroir for spirits production.
In the small but well-designed pot still distillery, the entire process is handled under one roof—from mashing and long fermentation with specially selected yeast strains, to double distillation, oak barrel aging, and bottling. This gives them full control over the complexity and quality of every drop. The distillery’s laboratory is used not only for its own analysis but also as a consulting resource, where other distilleries seek expertise on equipment, fermentation protocols, and recipe development.
The pursuit of maximum flavor and aroma is largely determined by the carefully selected oak barrels, sourced from both Europe and around the world. Between 40–80% of a spirit’s final flavor and character comes from the barrels. Everything is produced in small batches—individual runs where quality always takes precedence over quantity.
The range includes gin, vodka, aquavit, and whiskey—including popular varieties such as Tycho’s Star, Hvenus Rye, MerCurious Corn Whiskey, and the certified organic Hven Organic Vodka. For example, their MerCurious Corn Whiskey has been hailed as “velvet smooth and enticing” with notes of vanilla, fudge, and tropical fruit.

Starting in June 2025, you’ll also be able to purchase spirits directly on-site in accordance with Swedish farm-sales regulations.
The distillery is located in Backafallsbyn, which also offers a hotel, restaurant, and whiskey bar—a complete experience in a scenic setting.
